"We can't let public school students get left behind. "
This is the statement of Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto who is one of the people who believes that we can still pursue education amid the global crisis.
Just like this mayor, Schools Division Office 1 Pangasinan , OIC Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Sheila Marie A. Primicias is also constructing ways on how to pursue learning amidst the suspension of face-to-face classes. Despite of the presence of the gigantic educational crisis brought by the Corona Virus Disease, Dr. Primicias believes that learning must continue.
While the Department of Education is preparing different learning modalities to continue the education, SDO1 Pangasinan through the initiative of Dr. Primicias, all learners from Kindergarten to Senior High School are encouraged to do the suggested activities posted in its official facebook page.
Inspirited by Mabulitec Integrated School (MIS) Principal, Dr. Christine M. Paglingayen with the help of the teachers, MIS learners enthusiastically joined the scheme.
The suggested activities undertaken by the MIS learners from June 1 to 5 are the following:
June 1, 2020
1. For Kindergarten- Learners are encouraged to do the ‘Pagbakat ng mga Hugis’. With this, they learned how to draw and identify different shapes by listening attentively with their parents/teacher as they were given instructions and guided in this activity.
2. For Elementary- Spiritual Strengthening through prayer is the theme of the first activity of this week which joined by the learners. This activity encouraged them to do the Five Fingers Prayer. With this, they learned to use their fingers as symbols of groups of individuals whom they must pray for. In trying times, we deeply need to pray not only for ourselves but for other people, too.
3. For Junior High School- Scheduling of Task for Daily Activities Starting Upon Waking Up ‘Till Bedtime is the suggested activity wherein the students have shown their ability in managing their time. Herewith, the learners found out that good time management allows them to accomplish more in a shorter period of time which leads to more free time, take advantage of learning opportunities and leads them to more career success.
4. For Senior High School- Students are encouraged to do the Guess and Draw activity. With this, a student is challenged to draw as accurately as possible what the other player is drawing on his back by guessing the movement of the other player’s pen. This is done with the guidance of their parents and teacher.
June 2, 2020
1. For Kindergarten - ‘Paglakad ng Paabante at Paatras’ is an activity that actively participated by the kindergarten. In this activity, they were able to learn to walk straightly and properly with the straight line paper guide. The learners are guided by their parents and teacher in the said activity.
2. For Elementary - Learners showed their drawing prowess and creative imagination through this suggested activity, the Reading Activity 1 . Artistic drawings based on the latest story they've read were posted by the learners in their facebook accounts. Integration of reading and visual skills is present in this activity. Thus, enjoyable one.
3. For Junior High School- Students are encouraged to create a journal in a form of sketch or drawing about personal refelction on the CoViD-19 pandemic. This activity helped them to express their feelings how this pandemic really affects their emotions, their perspective in life, and its impact into their lives as well as they experience the crisis brought by CoViD-19.
4. For Senior High School- Family Time Capsule is an activity wherein creativity and collaboration are essential. Students with their families found the activity so fun because they were able to create their own family time capsule that the family can open at a reunion in the future to share old memories and that everyone has something to look forward to!
June 3, 2020
1. For Kindergarten - Learners joined the ‘ Pagbanggit sa Sariling Pangalan’. With the guidance of their parents and teacher, the learners were able to learn saying their own names expressively.
2. For Elementary- Children start learning to be responsible by having simple responsibilities at home. The suggested activity, Basic Life Skill Activity 1 taught children the proper folding of their shirts. With a link from youtube, the youngsters learned a basic life skill at home.
3. For Junior High School- Students are encouraged to make a poem/song/rap about their reflections on the CoViD-19 pandemic. This activity taught them to express their feelings how this pandemic really affects their emotions, their perspective in life, and its impact into their lives as well as they experience the crisis brought by CoViD-19 through a poem/song/rap.
4. For Senior High School- Students joined the Napkin Folding. Students’ creativity and critical thinking were manifested in this activity as they were able use their own style and created different napkin folds.
June 4, 2020
1. For Kindergarten - With the guidance of their parents and teacher, Kindergarten gloatingly participated in the activity, ‘Pagkilala sa Bahagi ng Katawan’. Youngsters did not only learn to identify the parts of their body but enjoyed the activity.
2. For Elementary- If the school learners are missing the exercise they used to do after flag ceremony, they can go back everyday to the proposed activity, 9-min Exercise for Kids-Home Workout. There is a youtube video link posted by the division that can be used. A refreshing exercise guide that helps build muscles, strengthens bones, improves flexibility and burns calories will make the children's stay at home a productive one.
3. For Junior High School- Another worthwhile activity was carried out by the students, the Facial and Hair Care. This activity helped them learn the beauty tips in keeping themselves look good with their skin and hair while learning remotely.
4. For Senior High School- Students discovered their creativity With Woodsy Wind Chimes activity. With the guidance of their parents, they did not only create such wonderful wind chimes but good memories with their families.
June 5, 2020
1. For Kindergarten - The last activity has something to do with color recognition, ‘Pagpapangkat ng mga Bagay na Pareho ang Kulay’. Parents and teachers had different motivations and strategies in presenting the said activity. Some used balloons and plates as their materials, some used Lego and other materials with different colors to help their children/learners classify things according to their colors. This activity aimed at helping the children develop their cognitive skills.
2. For Elementary- Four Ways to Recycle Empty Tissue Roll is an activity which is in line with Aksyong Pangkalikasan. Learners exhibited their creativity in this task as they made Paper Craft Cosmetic Bucket out of recyclable materials.
3. For Junior High School- Students learned to make an improvised laundry bin in this activity. With the use of carton of considerable sizes, they were able to create unique DIY laundry bin.
4. For Senior High School- Another worthwhile activity has been carried out by the students with the DIY Roll-up Pen Case. In this activity, students showed their creativity as they were able to make a unique roll-up pen case.
Indeed, this pandemic we are facing right now should not be a hindrance in providing learning activities among learners. With the very able SDS, Dr. Primicias who continuously initiate worthwhile activities through the help and guidance of the teachers and with the involvement of the parents, learners’ stay at home could be fun and worthwhile.
